Newsletter 2021
Dear colleagues and friends,
Allow me to warmly welcome you all and I hope you and your families have kept safe and well away from COVID19.
I apologize for the delay in delivering the newsletter 2021. It was hard to find time to prepare this newsletter with the many duties related to our Society in addition to my personal works. Herein is an update on society’s activities and news.
The Society has organized its conference 2020 with the collaboration of two prestigious scientific institutions, Tanta University and Theodor Bilharz Research Institute. The preparation for the ESEM conference 2020 was not an easy responsibility. I seize this opportunity to thank all my colleagues of the Society Board of Directors for their contribution to the success of this important event. The conference had as theme “the electron microscopy and the pandemic COVID 19”. It was a virtual conference broadcasted online on 11-12 October 2020, as a result of assembly restriction due to the COVID 19 outbreak. The conference was associated with a workshop on the processing of microorganisms and nanoparticles for EM examination on the 11th of October. The workshop was broadcasted from the Electron Microscopy Department at TBRI. The conference scientific program covered important subjects highlighted the role of Electron microscopy in detecting the virus and its possible impact on the running researches at the level of life science and material sciences. Eminent speakers from the Robert Koch Institute Berlin, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Thermo Fisher Scientific in Eindhoven, Damietta University New Damietta, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI) , Zewail City of Science and Technology, Zagazig University& the Faculty of Dentistry, British University in Egypt (BUE) have passed on their expertise to our junior colleagues and elucidated the role played by EM in the present covid19 outbreak. I want to thank all speakers for sharing their knowledge and for their educational presentations. Many colleagues have registered and shared with us this event from European and Arab countries, as well as, from different Egyptian governorates.
These days we are working hard to finish reconciling the conditions of our society according to the new NGOs law.
I want to bring also your attention that our Biennial conference of the Society conference will be in October 2022. The Organizing Committee is trying to invite eminent speakers that can expose the cutting-edge research carried in the field of nanostructures and provide a scientific program exposing research activities carried out in most of the Egyptian laboratories working in the field of Electron microscopy.
Just before I finish, I insist that the society Board of Directors welcome anyone to contribute information on any upcoming training or workshops in the field of electron microscopy.
Thank you.
Very best wishes to all,
President of the ESEM
